About Us
The Shree Sanathan Dharma Sabha of South Africa Purohit Mandal is an organisation of Sanathan priests that was established in 1952, with its original headquarters at The Durban Hindu Temple in Somsteu Road, Durban
Background
Since its establishment, the organization has actively initiated and conducted workshops and other priest development activities for Sanathan Purohits. Research on matters relating to Sanathan Dharma in general, and specifically pertaining to Karmakanda, has been an integral and important aspect of the Mandal’s work.
To this end, the Mandal has published relevant material for use by its members. The Mandal is an affiliate of the Shree Sanathan Dharma Sabha of South Africa (SSDSSA), and there has always been a close and cooperative relationship between the Mandal and the SSDSSA. The Mandal also interacts closely with the South African Hindu Maha Sabha.
Aims & Objectives
- To offer guidance, training, and professional assistance to purohits regarding karamkanda.
- To promote and maintain uniformity in the performance of various Vedic ceremonies.
- To conduct research related to Sanathan Dharma and make such information available to purohits and the Sanathan community.
- To educate registered purohits and trainee priests about the professional responsibility of karamkanda.
- To adopt and promote the correct attitude of religious leadership.
- To promote mutual respect and goodwill between purohits and the community.
- To offer religious services for the sick and those in distress and to serve humanity in the religious sphere.
- To publish and distribute literature related to Karamkanda and Sanathan Dharma.
- To encourage and promote the celebration and/or observance of Hindu religious occasions and promote brotherhood among purohits.
- To promote and uphold Sanathan Dharma.
- To facilitate training, development, and certification of purohits.
- To establish the basis for the professional and orderly conduct of purohits affiliated with the Mandal and, in doing so, create an environment for the Sanathan community to fully benefit from the services and expertise of affiliated purohits.
